QUBSU, UUSU and NUS-USI welcome the news announced today by the Department for the Economy that there will be a period poverty pilot project for NI’s higher education institutions.

"The student movement has been campaigning on the issue of period poverty for a number of years, with recent campaigns such as the Period Poverty Action Group, and we are delighted that free period products in our higher education institutions will soon become a reality. We hope to see a similar pilot introduced across further education colleges soon.

Access to free period products is both an issue of equality and justice, and we will keep fighting for the elimination of period poverty as a whole!

We look forward to working with the Department for the Economy and the respective universities to ensure this pilot project meets the needs of our students."
