These committee positions are all about making sure students are an active part of decision making at NUS. Our democracy committees lead our thinking on new models of democracy and how we implement these at NUS. They oversee our conferences and processes for generating ideas from students and students unions. They make sure that our democracy runs efficiently and is constantly evolving, incorporating the latest thinking on participatory democracy, restorative justice and collective care.

Campaign statement
Hey I’m Ryan the current chair of UUSU Student council.
At UU I’ve championed EDI both and advocated for investment into Student Mental Health policy and resources. Most importantly however I’ve endeavoured to learn from the lived experience of my fellow students, create platforms for them to share that experience and to work alongside them to alleviate the additional barriers they may face.
Over my time at UU I’ve gained extensive experience in student representation, providing me with valuable insights into student networking and I would be delighted to bring my experience to the NUS-USI Steering Committee.

Michael Upham - Queen's University Belfast Students' Union

Campaign Statement

Hi!! I'm Michael and I think I'd be a good fit for steering.
I know my way around policies, constitutions and amendments, and have a fair amount of knowledge surrounding higher education. I've been an elected student rep at every level, from class, through to faculty, 3 years of representing students at University!
Supporting evidence: Wrote 43 amendments and a welfare policy that complied with governing body standards (UK and ROI) for a club I'm a member of. And we managed it with a 14-day deadline...and I only nearly cried once!

Re-Open Nominations (RON)

Re-Open Nominations or 'RON' is a democratic mechanism to allow voters to choose not to elect any of the candidates in the election. If RON wins the election, then nominations will re-open and this will give more people the chance to stand for the position,
